Job Descriptions
The Bullitt Central High School Media Center has positions for two professional media specialists, designated as Head Librarian and Librarian. The following job descriptions are specific to Bullitt Central and are intended to supplement rather than supplant the district job description for media specialists in general.
Head Librarian
The head librarian is ultimately responsible for the development and implementation of the library program, including services, resources and the physical plant. Areas of responsibility include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following.
- Development of library goals and objectives aligned with the stated mission and goals of the school.
- Informing the principal of the goals of the library program and progress made towards those goals.
- Administration of all funds allocated for use in development and maintenance of the library program.
- Developing programs to support curriculum delivery.
- Developing lines of communication with the faculty concerning the library program.
- Collection development.
- Catalog maintenance.
- Reference services.
- Readers' advisory.
- Arrangement and maintenance of the physical plant.
- Other duties as assigned by the principal.
Librarian
The Librarian supports the library program by participating in the development of and facilitating the delivery of library services and performing duties as delegated by the Head Librarian. Areas of participation include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Development of library goals and objectives.
- Programs supporting delivery of the curriculum.
- Collection development.
- Catalog maintenance.
- Reference services.
- Readers; advisory.
- Arrangement and maintenance of the physical plant.
- Other duties as assigned by the principal.
