Long-Range Literacy Plan – 2010-2011
School Name: Bullitt Central |
Component: Literacy |
Manager: School Literacy Team |
Goals: Literacy
understanding and implementation among the faculty is demonstrated through
embedded rigorous literacy instruction across the curriculum. |
Statement of Need: · Observations, surveys, and walkthroughs indicate a lack of instructional rigor. · Limited evidence of incorporating literacy instruction in PLC units. · According to CTL’s Adolescent Literacy Performance Guide, school wide implementation of literacy strategies across the curriculum falls within the developing range. · According to the 2009-2010 Literacy Lingo walkthrough data, teachers were showing improvement of the read, write, speak, listen components, but consistent strategy use was lacking. |
Objectives (measurable): · Teachers will incorporate reading, writing, speaking, and listening into their instructional practices. PERKS 3.3 · Curriculum is aligned with core content and program of studies and is implemented. PERKS 1.1 · Teachers actively engage students in the five strands of reading, writing, speaking/listening/observing, inquiry, and technology-as-communication in order to build a wide range of literacy experiences for a variety of authentic purposes and audiences by using the literacy strategies and other strategies specific to their content. PERKS 1.4 · Teachers analyze students’ performance, provide timely feedback, and adjust instruction accordingly. PERK 3.7 |
Evidence of Success (for each
objective): · 100% of teachers will participate in Summer Literacy Training as evidenced by sign in sheets. · 100% of teachers (across core content) will demonstrate the incorporation of effective literacy strategies as evidenced by PLC units plans, observations, literacy team and administrative walkthroughs, student work analysis, and/or PGP’s. · 100% of teachers will analyze students’ performance (Maps data and common assessments), provide feedback and adjust instruction as evidenced by student assessment, PLC unit plans, walkthroughs, and observations. · 100% of PLC units will include literacy in lesson plans (examples include, handouts, forms, and/or question at the end of each unit regarding literacy strategy used and implemented.) |
