Reading / Listening

Bookmark : a sheet of bookmarks (print back-to-back) with tips for reading on each side.

Conflict Dissection : simple, effective.  I’d use this one.

Fact Versus Opinion : a simple and useful organizer for determining the nature of statements in a persuasive piece of writing.

Pre-reading Notes : an excellent guide for annotating a chapter, article, etc.

Summary Notes : a form for taking notes while reading in preparation for summarizing a piece of text.

Cornell Notes : the best organizer for taking notes, bar none, especially for college-bound students.

Process Notes : a good form for taking notes on a process, particularly a scientific process, but could be applied to anything that involves a “process.”

Q - Notes : a combination of Cornell Notes and SQ3R.

Textbook Feature Analysis : every course should begin by using this form to analyze the textbook used for instruction – very useful.

Writing

Cause and Effect : multiple organizers of various quality for identifying the effects of events.  I have filed this under writing because some would be particularly useful for persuasive writing, but they could be used for reading as well.

Expository Writing : many different takes on structuring the 5-paragraph essay; a visual representation for everyone.

Main Idea Organizer : a brainstorming sheet that culminates in the main idea in a piece of writing.

Narrative Writing : a variety of organizers for planning a story.

Persuasive Writing : many good organizers for writing an editorial piece.

Persuasive Writing : an outstanding organizer for developing a persuasive piece from Abell & Atherton Educational Consulting, Inc. submitted by Ms. Waggoner. (Set your printer to “landscape.”)

Pyramid Notes : another take on the 5-paragraph essay format, nicely elaborated.

Revising Your Writing : a form for comparing a writing piece with a model – nice.

Planner for Topic, Audience, Purpose : a pre-writing chart aimed at determining audience and purpose for a topic.

TAP – Topic, Audience, Purpose : another pre-writing chart aimed at determining audience and purpose for a topic.

Miscellaneous

Arts : a number of organizers, some good, some not so good.  I think the one for describing music is very good and there are a couple for comparing artwork that appear useful.
